Hi,
This is a special note to our supporters to let you know about WAC’s rally planned for Saturday 10th October 2009. With a state election only a few months away the rally seeks to let the politicians and the media know that the community is fed up with current water management in South Australia, we demand to be heard and demand policy change.
We have had enough of the disastrous management of our water, our rights in South Australia which is having devastating consequences on our place, our communities and our quality of life. Water is a public trust connected to everything, itself, our ecosystems, our societies and our economies and should not be owned.
This is a WAC “Call For Action” Rally that culminates on the steps of Parliament House North Terrace for community groups from around the state to tell their stories and to collectively demand action.
Local, State and Federal Governments need to implement a National Commission to coordinate a State of Emergency into the Murray-Darling Basin and to establish an urgent National Public Commission of Inquiry into water management, conservation, recycling and sharing of any available resource.
The Rally is planned to start at 12 PM and take approximately one hour. Representatives from WAC community groups will be interviewed to tell their stories to the public of South Australia about their issues and consequences of current government policies. The rally will feature theatre and music. Politicians will be invited to respond. There will be a Message of Hope and a Rally Proclamation of what needs to be done from WAC.
You are all invited to let the government know their policies must change. The future of the State is at stake.
See you there,
John

A Problem Too Close To Ignore
Meningie and the Lower Lakes Youtube video by Steven Sadauskas
This is a brilliant piece of work about the Lower Lakes and Coorong part of the great Australian Murray-Darling Basin which are all being sacrificed so that the new water market in the Murray-Darling Basin can survive and become a gambling chip of world financial markets! Heads need to roll over the “Privatisation in Australia” of the very essence of life itself, water!

PS We need more “Youtube Videos” to tell the world about South Australia’s water and environmental disaster!

We need nothing short of a revolution here in Australia to start to catch up with this bold step…
In California, the human right to water bill of 2009 is the joint effort of many organizations – environmental, social justice, faith based and human rights – a coalition called The Water Summit The final text that has passed out of the Senate, and concurrence, and will go to the governor’s desk for signature / veto in the next days – for your information http://www.aroundthecapitol.com/Bills/AB_1242/.
Here is a video clip by one of the co sponsors – the UU Legislative Ministry of CA. The water drop is the mascot of the Federation of Water and Saniation Workers of Peru (FENTAP), sent to the U.S. to help us in our work on the human right to water. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Viq4RZStlz4
